Admissions

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.

The school's Published Admission Number (PAN) is 90.

As an academy we are our own admission authority. However WSCC manage admissions to the school. Applications for admission should be made to:

Education Office (South),
Centenary House, Durrington Lane,
Worthing, West Sussex
BN13 2QB
(telephone 0845 0751007)

Applications may be made online; the system provides instant confirmation that the application has been received.

Children are normally admitted in the September of the school year in which they reach the age of five.  For children with birthdays between 1st September and 31st December a full-time place is offered; for those with birthdays in the remainder of the year, parents decide whether children start on a full time or part time basis, entry may be deferred to the start of the Spring term (for children born between 1st January and 30th April) or the Summer term (for children born between 1st May and 31st August).

Nursery/School Liaison arrangements

The local authority hosts a meeting for all schools and nursery providers to share detailed information regarding children going to each school. Downview attends this to assist in the transition between nursery and school.

Induction to school and Home / School links

An opportunity will be provided for parents to meet with the Class teachers, learning support assistants, headteacher and members of the Governing Body and Parents’ Association in the summer term prior to a child starting school.  A Parent’s Information handbook will be provided.

Welcome visits to school will also be arranged.  During this time, the children will be introduced to all the staff and familiarised with the early years’ environment. They will be able to meet the other children in their Class and make new friends.

Each child and their parents will be offered a 'Meet the teacher' appointment. During this visit, we ask that you share your knowledge of your child’s development, personality and interests so that we can begin to understand them and build on their personal developments. This is also an opportunity for you, the parent, to ask questions and find out more about the school.

As a primary school, successful transition is an important part of our ethos - ‘Moving On’ packs are produced by each year group for children and parents, a transfer day takes place each year for the children to meet their new teacher and spend time in their new Classroom.

Transition to secondary school

In year 6 special attention is given to helping children move to their new schools. This includes our participation in transition projects where primary schools work on particular programmes of work that are then picked up on by local secondary schools.
Members of teaching staff from the secondary school will come in to Downview Primary and work with the children on a variety of activities.

The Classes and small groups also visit the secondary school to participate in various activities or lessons. All our activities aim to minimise the anxiety that some children might feel on transfer. Our Year 6 staff are happy to discuss your child’s transfer at any point.
