Headteacher's Welcome

Starting School September 2023

Starting School

Starting school for the very first time, or changing schools is an important milestone for both you and your child. At Downview Primary School we believe that this should also be a time of great excitement and opportunity.

Because of this, we are firmly committed to ensuring that it is an experience that is as positive as possible; by working together we can and we will make this transition smooth and enjoyable. This smooth transition begins from your very first encounter and we strive to maintain this throughout your long and happy association with us.

Please do not hesitate to make contact with the school for further information. We look forward to receiving your questions and queries and to your applications to attend our warm and friendly school from September 2024 or earlier if you are moving into the area.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Downview Primary School website.

I feel extremely privileged to be the Headteacher of our friendly and caring school, where all members of the staff team are committed to ensuring that every child can succeed.

We have extremely high expectations of ourselves and our pupils, and continually strive to ensure that children achieve the very best academically and socially, whilst providing them with a firm foundation for life.

I joined the school as Headteacher in January 2023 having previously been associated with the school for 9 years as a parent of 2 children.

Our staff are a significant strength in our school and their enthusiasm, drive and commitment to children’s learning, whilst developing their creative, physical and personal skills results in the children leaving us as confident individuals who are ready for the next stage of their school journey.

Support and provision for children with Special Educational Needs and vulnerable children is also a considerable strength of our school and our staff go above and beyond with the range of support and personalised provision for children and their families.

Our whole school is continually reflecting upon the challenges our children may face in their later life and as a staff we constantly look at how best to prepare our children to meet these challenges with confidence and determination.

School Values and mottos
Our school is underpinned by our 6 school values which were decided upon by staff and children. These values are:

Collaboration, Communication, Co-operation,  Creativity,  Independence,  Resilience

Together we live by the motto that “At Downview we grow and learn together everyday.”

At Downview Primary our behaviour mantra is that we are "kind, respectful and safe."

We have a fantastic staff team who only want the very best for all our children, and alongside the Board of Governors and parent volunteers, who form Friends of Downview, they are committed and work tirelessly to move our school forwards and ensure that our children achieve their very best.

We all want the very best for your child and our number one priority is to ensure that all children are happy in school. It is therefore vital that parents and school staff communicate regularly.
